Individual Responsibility
As humans, we are so disconnected from the scale of our impact. Throughout our life, every product we buy adds up to create our own chunk of landfill and plastic island in the ocean. The more I learned about consumerism, the more I realised how important it was for my actions to align with my morals. For several years, I have been cutting out animal products, becoming more plastic-free and gradually reducing my consumption of fast fashion. I am now vegan and hope to share what I have learned over the years to make the transition much easier for anyone else wanting to live a plant-based lifestyle.
My biggest learning on this continued journey is that it takes time to transition. I admire anyone who is able to go vegan overnight but finding the products, adjusting your taste preferences and understanding the facts about our food, does take time. So go easy on yourself in the process, don’t expect to do everything all at once, start with one product at a time and work your way up. Below are a few recommendations for plastic-free and ethical household products, that I use to reduce my waste and overall impact. When I first started going vegan, I turned to people online for advice on the best products and delicious recipes. I hope to use this blog as a way to reach out to other like-minded animal lovers, whether you are thinking about going vegan, just getting started, or are already a long way into your journey, I aim to provide something for everyone!
Vegan products are great, but it does take some trial and error to find the ones you like best. Vegan cheese for example is in fact, despite popular opinion, very tasty (my favourite brand is Violife). Saying this, I still had to try a number of fake-cheese products that I hated before I found one that worked for me! Plant-based products do taste different but the knowledge that you are preventing harm to animals is truly unmatched.
This lifestyle is something I am still cultivating, so if you have advice to share then I would love to hear from you. I am currently drafting up a list of my favourite vegan and cruelty-free products, so for anyone reading I hope to make this journey much easier for you. Never underestimate the power of your individual actions because together there are 8 billion of us!
